Research Focus

The Faculty of Chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is seeking to fill the following position starting May 11, 2026 (or as soon as possible): Project Coordinator (m/f/d).

The position is located at the Institute of Physical Chemistry in the Department of Theoretical Chemistry (Prof. Maurer). The role offers up to 100% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 39.8 hours/week). The position involves the coordination of a 5-year large-scale research project as part of an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship and is limited until February 28, 2031. The position is generally available as a part-time role (at least 50%). Salary is paid according to pay scale E13 TV-L.

Your Responsibilities

  • Central Coordination: Manage a 5-year fixed-term research project in close coordination with international project partners across multiple locations.
  • Project Management: Plan, monitor, and control project progress, milestones, and budgets in accordance with the requirements of the funding institution.
  • Communication: Interface with funding agencies, partner institutions, and external stakeholders.
  • Reporting: Prepare interim and final reports and document project results.
  • Events & Logistics: Plan and execute international conferences, regular research group retreats, and cross-site research stays; provide logistical support for international guests and partners.
  • Data Management: Develop, implement, and maintain a cross-site data management concept in close coordination with the IT departments of partner institutions; advise project members on research data management.
  • Recruitment: Create and publish job advertisements for PhD and Postdoc positions in collaboration with project leaders; coordinate and administratively support the application and selection process.
  • Onboarding: Onboard new employees and facilitate networking within the research group.
  • Third-party Funding: Provide content-related and administrative support for the preparation and submission of grant proposals to national and international funding institutions (e.g., DFG, EU Horizon).
  • Strategy: Research funding opportunities and support strategic planning for future applications.
  • Public Relations: Actively design the project’s external scientific communication (website, newsletter, social media).
  • Research Support: If needed and given suitable prior experience, support research activities in the field of Theoretical Chemistry.

Your Profile

Required:

  • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent), preferably in natural science or related field; a PhD is an advantage.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a structured, independent way of working.
  • Business fluency in German and English (written and spoken), particularly proficient English skills.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional business trips.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborating within a research institution.

Desired:

  • Experience with administrative processes at German universities and/or research institutions.
  • Knowledge of research data management and project management.
